Fort Wayne Philharmonic management and musicians fail to reach agreement

Fort Wayne Philharmonic management and the players association have failed to negotiate a contract following another meeting.

Management and representatives for the musicians met for almost eight hours on Tuesday and, despite some compromise in wage offerings, still have not been able to negotiate a new contract for the players.

Players Association spokesman, Campbell MacDonald, said the association offered three proposals to management on Tuesday.

“Philharmonic is insisting on going after full-time and part-time musicians still," he said. "They’re still interested in degrading our workplace rights that have been in place for years and they’re also going after our personal time.”

Despite this, MacDonald said he believes they are close to a deal.

In a statement Tuesday, management said they sent musicians a proposal that offered a 33.4 percent salary increase over three years, versus the original 11.5 percent offer. They said they also offered to dip into their $30 million endowment.

MacDonald said musicians can’t accept a proposal that still eliminates several current musician positions.

In the release, management said “there is not another scheduled date for both parties to return to the negotiating table.” MacDonald said they are scheduled to meet on Thursday and again Jan. 4.

Kyle Larson races to his 1st Brickyard 400 victory, making a late charge through the field

Kyle Larson made a late charge through the field, managed to get his car refired after a red flag and won the final two restart battles Sunday before coasting to his first Brickyard 400 victory under caution. Larson took the lead when Brad Keselowski ran out of fuel and pulled off the track just before the second-to-last restart and beat pole winner Tyler Reddick at the end with the yellow flag out. Larson won in his first trip back to the speedway since trying to become the fifth driver to complete 1,100 miles of racing on the same May day, at Indy and Charlotte, North Carolina. Larson won for the fourth time this season and took the points lead from Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott.

Caitlin Clark rallies Fever past Liberty 83-78 with first triple-double by WNBA rookie

Caitlin Clark posted the first triple-double by a rookie in WNBA history to rally Indiana to an 83-78 victory over New York on Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, snapping the Fever's nine-game losing streak to the Liberty. Clark finished with 19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds for Indiana (9-13). Aliyah Boston finished with 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting and had eight rebounds for the Fever. Sabrina Ionescu scored 22 to lead New York, which had won five straight games. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton added 20 points, Clark, the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft, was one rebound shy of a triple-double two games ago in an 88-82 road victory over the Phoenix Mercury.
