Facebook Campaign Generates Fresh Produce Donation For Gleaners

Two thousand pounds of fresh produce was delivered to Gleaners Food Bank Monday morning thanks to a social media driven donation.

Green Bean Delivery’s “Like, Share, Give” Facebook campaign challenged members and fans to click towards the donation of fresh food.

"We quickly exceeded our 6,000 pound goal and we actually donated 10,000 pounds and we divided that up into all our markets," says Trisha Brand, marketing and member services supervisor at Green Bean Delivery.

The donation of carrots, apples, potatoes and onions is being evenly divided between five different food banks, including Gleaners.

Todd Clevenger, director of marketing and communications for Gleaners Food Bank, says fresh produce ahead of the holiday season is greatly needed.

"Donations are a little down this year but we have wonderful supporters and they come through all the time when we need help," says Clevenger. "As the month goes on we plan to see more and more."
