Free blood lead testing for children will be available in East Chicago Thursday.
Federal, state and city agencies teamed up to offer the testing from a mobile unit. The tests will be given from 2-7 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Center parking lot at the USS Lead Superfund site in East Chicago. The tests will be free for children ages six months to 7 years old.
A recent study found the blood lead levels of children living in the superfund site is higher than those living in other parts of the city.
