A Christmas Day mass shooting on the northeast side of Indianapolis left one person dead, according to a press release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Five others were injured.
Police said they have made an arrest in connection with the shooting.
When police arrived at the residence on the 6400 block of Meadowlark Drive, they found one woman outside with gunshot wounds, according to the release. She and another man with injuries took themselves to a nearby hospital.
IMPD said they believe friends and family members experienced a “disturbance” that soured into the violence.
When entering the home law enforcement said they encountered a group of four minors in the front room who were uninjured. As they continued to search the residence, they found an adult woman and man who also suffered gunshot wounds. They were both transported to the hospital where the woman was later pronounced dead.
IMPD said they found a firearm on the scene.
Law enforcement later identified two other people that they believe were also injured at this mass shooting, bringing the total number of injured victims to six, according to police.
IMPD said the incident was not related to another fatal shooting that occurred Christmas Day on North Kitley Avenue just blocks away.
