Final Decisions Near On Indiana's New State Budget Plan

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Legislature's budget writers are nearing final decisions on the state's new two-year spending plan that will include a contentious plan for shifting money from many urban and rural school districts with shrinking enrollments.

Legislative leaders plan to release details of the budget proposal Tuesday afternoon, a day ahead of the General Assembly's Wednesday adjournment deadline.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Tim Brown said Monday some school funding details were still being sorted out, along with some spending cuts because of slower-than-expected growth in tax collections.

Budget plans backed by House and Senate Republicans have different proposals on moving tens of millions of dollars to school districts in growing suburban communities.
