The Indianapolis Cultural Trail has undergone many changes in the last year.

Executive Director Kären Haley said groundbreaking took place last November on the first expansion of the trail.

We're able to connect more neighborhoods, we're going to be better connecting the ransom place neighborhood near the Indiana Avenue corridor and providing safe connection and kind of north south connectivity for the historic Flanner House homes neighborhood, which is also in the same area. And then on South Street, we're going to be connecting the near Southside neighborhoods, there's a lot of history there. There's a lot of culture there,” Haley said.

Crews have been working hard along Indiana Avenue over the last few months.

“You'll be able to see the trail taking shape, where we've got the cultural trail, you know, well recognizable light poles that have gone in the stormwater planters have been constructed,” Haley said. “They're not planted yet. But you can tell they're stormwater planters.”

There will be more than 42,000 square feet of new green space along the trail. Construction will continue throughout the winter, as the weather allows.

Haley said there will be a lot of activity on South Street in the coming year. And there will be more along Indiana Avenue on 10th Street.

Completion is expected at the end of next year.
