Elvis fans gathered near the former site of Market Square Arena today to celebrate a plaque and time capsule commemorating his final concert.

“There a man stood. He sang, he danced, and he entertained our city as part of a pilgrimage that dazzled the world. Indeed, Elvis and his reign as the king of Rock N’ Roll, it may have started in Memphis, but it came to an end on these grounds, in the old Market Square Arena," Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said.

Today marks the 41st anniversary of his last performance at the Market Square Arena, less than two months before his death on August 16, 1977.
