INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Two drivers are facing charges in a weekend collision that killed three teenagers in Indianapolis, prosecutors said Thursday.
Okadema Link and Shantiana Willis both face three counts of reckless homicide and causing death when operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced. Link also faces three counts of leaving the scene of an accident and Willis is charged with three additional counts of causing death when operating a vehicle while intoxicated
Killed in the collision about 1:30 a.m. Saturday were 14-year-old David Evans, 13-year-old Tyjiana Velez and 15-year-old Kierra Brown, coroners have said.
Witnesses described two vehicles driving at a high rate of speed before colliding, an affidavit said.
Link’s vehicle struck the three victims, who were walking on the gravel shoulder of the roadway, prosecutors said. The vehicle then fled the scene.
Link’s vehicle was traveling at about 73 mph moments before the crash and Willis’ vehicle was traveling approximately 88 mph. The speed limit there is 35 mph.
The collision occurred about a mile from the home that Link and Willis share, according to court documents. Their relationship to each other was unclear. Court records do not list an attorney for either one.
