COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) — The central Indiana city of Columbus has a healthy chance of being named an All-American city.
A delegation led by Mayor Kristen Brown is headed for Denver on Thursday to make Columbus's case.
The Republic reports the National Civic League selected Columbus as one of 25 finalists for the award, which honors 10 cities each year.
The city of about 45,000 some 40 miles south of Indianapolis is known for its beautiful architecture, but its application focused more on workforce development, the arts and health.
The National Civic League this year emphasized successful efforts by cities to address underlying conditions that affect communities' health. It says this year's All-American Cities will be communities that address issues such as obesity, walkable cities, biking, fitness and healthy eating.
