Cold to Shut Down City, Tuesday

Cold to Shut Down City, Tuesday

Indianapolis City Government is shutting downTuesday, because of the cold.

In the morning, temperatures are expected to be below zero in the city and feel even worse, around 10 below.

The high will be between six and eight degrees.

Mayor Greg Ballard says that’s too dangerous for city employees to have to come to work.

"Tomorrow is going to be a very cold day," he said.  "I think everyone knows where the wind chills are going to be, easily into the double digits below zero.  As you probably found out a couple of weeks ago, to me that is very scary stuff."

City operations are shut down except for essential employees. IndyGo buses will not be affected and will run on the regular schedule.

The city will reopen Wednesday but on a two hour delay.

Ballard says shelter space is still available for people who lose power or heat because of the weather.
