A second round of snow and severe cold is set to grip the state again. Temperatures are expected to dip well below the freezing mark on Monday and Tuesday after a snowy weekend that could bring as much as six more inches.
This is the second polar vortex to hit the state this month and local departments and agencies are working together to keep everyone safe.
Lori Miser says the Department of Public Works will have a full call out to tackle the snow.
"We'll be out until the snow ends and everything is cleaned up," says Miser.
As of right now, most Indianapolis organizations are on heightened awareness.
Sgt. Robert Hipple with IMPD says plans are in place to again open an emergency shelter at Horizon House.
"There are still quite a few homeless that do not have any type of heat source," says Hipple. "It's probably critical that we get them in somewhere."
IPL doesn’t expect to see as many outages as we had with the heavy snow of the last storm.
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard will make the decision on whether or not to shut the city down, recommending only essential personal be out.
