City Honors Fallen Officers

Two Indianapolis police officers who lost their lives in September were honored by the city, Monday.

The City County Council recognized officers Rod Bradway and Timothy Day with special resolutions.

Bradway made the ultimate sacrifice when he stopped a domestic assault of a woman and her child, but was shot and killed in the process.

"It's only appropriate that we do it on Veterans Day because he truly was a veteran who gave his life for what he believed in," said IMPD Chief Rick Hite.  "We are humbled by the fact that you took the time to honor him and his wonderful family.  We have come to love them.  They are a part of us and he and them will always be part of IMPD."

Day, a 26-year IMPD veteran, suddenly died of a heart attack and Councilor Vernon Brown says his dedication will not be forgotten.

"He was an outstanding police officer," Brown said.  "He didn't brag about that.  He just did the job every, single day and he was well-respected and well-loved in the community and by his church. So, he was called home way too soon. We had a lot of respect and love for Tim."

Both men received standing ovations from the entire council chamber.
