City Adds New Hybrid To Fleet

Indianapolis has taken another step toward energy security.  A 2014 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium is the newest car the City plans to buy, moving toward its goal of converting the entire municipal non-police fleet to electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2025. The Energi Titanium provides enough power to operate in all electric-mode for about 20 miles, can be charged overnight and also functions as a gas-electric hybrid.

Last year, Mayor Greg Ballard signed Executive Order #6 with hopes of breaking the cycle of dependency on foreign oil and saving taxpayers money.  Other parts of the plan include installing charging stations, using E-85 vehicles and transitioning Indy’s heavy fleet to compressed natural gas.
