CHIP Receives National Grant To Help Families

A local organization has been awarded $1.25 million to support housing for families in Indianapolis. The Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention (CHIP) is one of 42 nonprofits across the country to receive grants from the Day 1 Families Fund.

The fund was established by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in 2018 to support nonprofits that address family homelessness. CHIP will use the funds to establish more permanent housing solutions with an emphasis on Black and brown families -- who are disproportionately impacted by homelessness.

In a written statement Chelsea Haring-Cozzi, executive director of CHIP, said the funds come at a critical time.

“As families face job loss, income loss and housing loss, we must have systems and resources in place to respond quickly. We must focus on the whole family and families of all types,” Haring-Cozzi said.
