Hoosier families that have the day off Monday can find many ways to pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
There is free admission to all attractions at the White River State Park with a non-perishable food donation for Gleaners Food Bank. The Indiana Historical Society will have related collection viewings and civil rights films.
One destination that will likely see a lot of traffic is the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, which is also waiving admission fees. Amanda Dorman with Indianapolis Downtown Inc. says the museum will also be offering a special screening.
"You can listen to Dr. King's famous 'I Have A Dream' speech there," says Dorman, "or listen to stories about the civil rights movement."
Other groups, like IUPUI and Indy Reads Books, are organizing volunteers as a tribute to Dr. King.
"IUPUI holds an annual sevice day and students, facility, guests are invited to volunteer all around downtown," says Dorman.
The Indianapolis Museum of Art is exhibiting a community art project called "One and All" in the spirit of Dr. King's belief in the relatedness of communities.
The Crispus Attucks Museum will also feature its newly enhanced civil rights exhibit entitled "The Man and the Movement."
