Cancer Fighting Foods Cooked By Local Celebs

Cancer Fighting Foods Cooked By Local Celebs

A local organization features cancer fighting food with its monthly cooking demonstrations performed by Indy celebrities.   First Lady Karen Pence was making a Mediterranean salad on Wednesday at the City Market downtown.

The Little Red Door Cancer Agency’s Eat Well, Live Well program aims to educate people about the importance of choosing healthy foods.  Obesity is a major cancer factor but finding and cooking the right foods can be difficult.

Little Red Door has been presenting the cooking classes for almost two years.  Top Indy chef Neal Brown kicked off the program last April.

Zina Kumok with Little Red Door says the celebrity chefs can choose what they want to cook.

"They might make something like a pasta but use whole grain noodles," says Kumok, "sometimes it'll be a healthier version of a dish everyone loves."

Eat Well, Live Well videos are then posted online at littlereddoor.org

The organization says that one third of all cancer can be linked to obesity.  Little Red Door is Indiana’s oldest cancer resource, helping at need Hoosiers reduce the burden of the disease.
