YORKTOWN, Ind. (AP) — A central Indiana political candidate has been arrested for allegedly stealing other candidates' signs.
Democratic Yorktown Town Council candidate Richard Yencer Jr. was arrested Tuesday while greeting voters at a school. The Star Press reports Yencer was released from the Delaware County Jail in Muncie after posting bond.
Sheriff's Deputy Kip Curtis wrote in an affidavit that two Republican candidates were placing signs at polling sites Monday night when they spotted Yencer tearing up a sign for one GOP candidate and signs for others in Yencer's car. Yencer reportedly struck one of the two with his car as he left the scene.
The 60-year-old Yencer faces preliminarily charges of theft and leaving the scene of accident. He doesn't have a published telephone number and couldn't be reached for comment.
