Blood Drive To Honor Life Of Officer Moore

Blood Drive To Honor Life Of Officer Moore

Indianapolis will honor the life of one of its fallen officers Friday during an annual blood drive.

Officer David Moore was shot in the line of duty on January 23, 2011. He passed away three days later.

For the fourth year, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office is hosting a blood drive to recognize his sacrifice.

"By donating blood, people are donating some part of themselves that may allow others to be able to survive," said Chief Deputy Prosecutor David Rimstidt.  "So, we thought we would mirror the heroic measures of the Moore family."

He says this year’s drive carries extra significance because of the death of officer Rod Bradway who was killed on the job in September.

The donations will go to the Indiana Blood Center.

Rimstidt says despite the cold, he expects strong participation.

"We are going to tell people that we expect them to get out because Officer Moore and Officer Rod Bradway, last year, suffered the ultimate sacrifice," he said.  "It seems like people in the community can brave a few cold temperatures and perhaps a few snowflakes to get down and honor officer Moore's memory."

The event collected about 100 units last year and Rimstidt says this year’s goal is the same.

The blood drive runs Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Platform at the City Market, downtown.
