Bel Aire Park, located on the southwest side of Indianapolis, reopened yesterday (Tuesday) with a series of changes.
Indy Parks Director Linda Broadfoot says the park has new playground equipment, a paved walking trail, two shelters and a community center.
"Not that long ago this place was a Hardee's restaurant and it's difficult to imagine it ever looking anything like it does now," says Broadfoot.
Community leader Willie Cooley has been involved in Bel Aire Park since the very beginning, when the park's original location was still a drive-in movie theater. She is thrilled with the improvements.
"It's just a dream come true. That's how I feel," says Cooley
The 1.5-million-dollar relocation and improvements were funded by a grant from the Lily Endowment and the City of Indianapolis.
