Indianapolis animal shelters are at capacity and offering discounted adoptions.

Indianapolis Animal Care Services, IACS, said it is at crisis level and has no space to take in any animals.  The shelter said it will have to euthanize animals if they cannot be adopted.

IACS has suspended surrenders for at least six weeks. It was receiving an average of 45 animals a day. There are more than 130 animals up for adoption.

“We have no more room, and there are more dogs that need our help,” IACS Deputy Director Katie Trennepohl said.

IACS said if people find an animal, they should try to find the owners through social media or see if they have a microchip. It also advises people to try to rehome their own pets if surrender is necessary.
