Andre Lacy, a prominent philanthropist and business leader in Indianapolis, died Thursday after a motorcycle accident.

Last year Butler University named its business school the Andre B. Lacy School of Business, after Lacy and his wife gifted the school $25 million.

Since then Lacy has served as senior advisor for the school, and worked with its dean Stephen Standifird. Standifird says beyond his financial contributions, Lacy was known for making deep connections with people.

“He would meet with our students, and his ability to connect with our students and advise them in important ways was like nothing that I’ve ever seen before, just a really remarkable individual. And did it from such a position of both phenomenal experience but tremendous humility,” Standifird says.

Lacy also served as CEO, and then Chairman, at Lacy Diversified Industries.

He was 78 years old.
