Pet Adoption Fees Reduced Thanks To Grant

Pet Adoption Fees Reduced Thanks To Grant

Drastically reduced adoption fees are being offered at a local shelter.  A recent grant is allowing Indianapolis Animal Care and Control (IACC) to lower adoption fees to $10 dollars for cats and dogs.

The special will run for the entire year, or until the grant money runs out.

Dawn Contos with the IACC says the grant is being provided by the Joanie Bernard Foundation Inc.

"They are paying $50 dollars on each adoption," explains Contos, "and it still includes the micro-chip, the spay/nueter, the testing and the vaccine."

The shelter hopes the money will encourage residents to consider adopting a pet which will then reduce the number of animals that have to be euthanized.

The campaign kick-off saw some impressive numbers with a record 36 adoptions on the first day.  No worries though, there are plenty of pets for everyone.  About 16,000 animals are taken in by IACC every year.
