INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis has scheduled a second controlled deer hunt at one of its parks for next week.

WTHR reports U.S. Department of Agriculture sharpshooters using high-powered rifles will hunt on the west side of the reservoir at Eagle Creek Park for three nights beginning Monday.

The city's park department received a state permit to kill up to 350 deer at the northwest side park. The city's permit requires the city to finish the hunt by Jan. 31.

Park officials have said the deer population is up to five times greater than it should be, but critics have questioned that figure. A November controlled deer hunt killed 142 bucks and does.
