At least 13 cows were killed when a semi overturned on Interstate 65 near downtown Indianapolis Monday evening.

Authorities say the driver of the semi was hauling 54 cattle from Kentucky to Iowa at the time of the crash. The driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for slight injuries.

The drivers dog, a 7 year old pure bred, Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) named Drifter, was transported by IFD to Noah's Eastside animal hospital for boarding, until the driver can retrieve him.

To help corral the remaining cows, ISP says they called in some cowboys who brought their own fencing and horses.

Indiana State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
