During his remarkable career, Jones performed with the biggest stars in American music, including Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sonny Rollins, Dinah Washington, Quincy Jones, and Nat King Cole. But he’s best known for his work with Count Basie. Jones was a member of the Count Basie band from 1952, to 1957. During that time, he led the band’s trumpet section, and he became known for playing the trumpet with one hand.
Jones was a member of Basie’s orchestra during a high point with the band. During the years Jones played with Basie, the band played their first dates in Europe and recorded classic albums like “Live at Newport”, “April in Paris”, and “Basie in London”.
