INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police say Indianapolis officers shot and badly wounded a man who they said confronted them with a gun after they entered a house with a search warrant.

City police Lt. Richard Riddle says the driver of a pickup truck fled after an attempted traffic stop about 1:30 a.m. Thursday and officers followed until the truck stopped and the man ran into a house on the city's southwest side.

Riddle says officers obtained a court search warrant to enter the house. Riddle says he was uncertain whether the man fired any shots.

Riddle says the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but no officers were injured. He says investigators believe the man lived at the house and that the pickup truck had been reported stolen.
