Supporters of that push hope to develop an inventory of those downtown structures and learn as much as possible about their construction and how they were used by GE, which last year shut down its final Fort Wayne operations.
Former Fort Wayne city urban designer Tom Cain tells The News-Sentinel the group is using exterior reviews and historical records to piece together what the buildings were like.
The complex dating to 1911 covers some 32 acres. The company once had more than 10,000 workers in Fort Wayne.
A member of the group plans to visit the former Studebaker plant in South Bend to see redevelopment efforts there.
