Lesson: How Much Is Too Much?

We each make choices and take risks every day. Some of us are willing to assume more risks than others. In this activity, students will decide how much risk they are willing to assume as it relates to drinking polluted water. (Note: Students do not actually drink the "polluted" water in this activity.)

Students will use their senses and a variety of tools to make observations. They will use their observations to describe and identify various objects and will complete a detailed observation data card that can be used by other students to pick out a specific object.

Lesson: The Secchi Disk - A Classroom Simulation

Students will explore how a Secchi disk is used to evaluate the transparency of water. Using graduated cylinders filled with different concentrations of powdered milk solution, students will measure the depth at which a miniature Secchi disk is visible.
