Peregrinos: Pilgrims, a Musical Journey
On February 27, 2009, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra premiered Peregrinos, an original commissioned work by world-renowned composer Gabriela Lena Frank. For over two years, Gabriela gathered stories or testimonios from Indianapolis' Latino community to compose the five movements of Peregrinos (The Pilgrims).

neighborhoods. This historically
African-American community
emerged in the northeast
side of Indianapolis as a
result of forced segregation
in the 1800s, and grew into
a thriving and stable environment.
The area has experienced
economic decline and increased
crime, but this locally-produced
documentary also focuses
on the determination of residents
to maintain the pride and
stability that are hallmarks
of the Martindale-Brightwood
neighborhood, and to tackle
such daunting issues as environmental
