Travels with Darby: Marsh Madness
| Watch This Segment Online. | | Description: | Since the late 1800's, more than a dozen property owners have drained and tried to farm the wetlands just outside of Linton ... all of them have lost money, and plenty of it. That's because, if ever a tract of land had a destiny, it's this one ... to be absolutely, totally, completely and unequivocally ... a wetland. And now it is, thanks to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. | Watch This Segment Online. | | Description: | Poetry is the passion of a politician, an art collector, a student, a professor and a journalist--for these are the jobs of our Indiana Poets, who, in the final chapter of their trip to Quezaltepeque in El Salvador, meet the Cortez family: Marvin, Jr.--one of the translators--and his 14 year-old sister Sondra--who, although she does not speak English, has become the darling of our Hoosiers because of her willingness to be daring with this new art form called poetry. Of all the words used to describe our poets' journey, perhaps the best are the ones of gratitude sent in a letter from the Cortez children's father, the manager of a paper mill, which--when translated--read in part: "Dear friends, our hearts don't understand, nor do they speak English or Spanish. But they do know the universal language of love, friendship, and the brotherhood of the human race.
