Common threads from the musical African-American cultural experience weave through jazz, spirituals, blues, gospel, pop and soul in this simple, yet engaging, production featuring only the talents of guitar virtuoso Tyron Cooper and world class mezzo-soprano Marietta Simpson. Musical Threads: Expressions of a People includes well-known songs and original tunes penned by Cooper and Simpson specifically for this production.

Cooper, a PhD. candidate in Ethnomusicology at Indiana University, who has accompanied such diverse artists as Angela Brown, Soulful Symphony, Dionne Warwick, A Taste of Honey and ConFunkShun, shows why his talents with six strings command such standing.

Simpson, also much in demand, has sung with major orchestras throughout the United States under many of the world's greatest conductors, including the late Robert Shaw in her Carnegie Hall debut in 1988. She is currently an Associate Professor of voice at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.
